Use of fly ash cement (blended cement)  has gained  momentum in almost all  the  countries  including India, playing  a  significant  role  in  advance concrete technology  to  ensure longer  durability  compared  to  ordinary Portland  cement.  Investigations into fly ash have been undertaken world wide and all research proves that fly ash can be used with absolute confidence in manufacturing of cement and it can dramatically improve the durability of concrete in all environments without any adverse effect. Fly Ash enhances properties of Portland Cement in almost every application and is used worldwide as a partial replacement or extender for cement in concrete. N eedless  to   mention  proper  use  of fly  ash  will  drastically  reduce  the production  cost  of cement , without  compromising  with  quality  and  will
enhance the profitability of your plant.

As per IS 1489 (Part-1) : 1991 for Portland Pozzolana Cement (3 rd revision) – Part I – Fly Ash based, the fly ash can be used to the extent of 25% by mass in Portland Pozzolana cement i.e. with 100 tons of Clinker, 33.33 tons of fly ash can be blended.

Fly ash is also used as an ingredient in brick, block, paving, and structural fills. NHAI has been using Fly Ash in large quantities for low land filling and road embankment.

Today, fly ash bricks can be used as a building material. The American Embassy in India has used fly ash bricks in some of its recent construction. Use of fly ash as a part replacement of cement in mortar and concrete has started with the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi taking the lead. Use of fly ash in the construction of roads and embankments has been successfully demonstrated in the country and it is gaining acceptance. The NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation) has also set up fly ash brick manufacturing plants.
